The Sumcay Camping Centre Trust is embarking on a fund raising campaign to raise approx R 8.5 mil to build an Environment Education Centre on the banks of the endangered and threatened Swartkops River Estuary. The Environment Education Centre will play a major role in educating children and teens on the importance of the evironment as well as play a significant role (together with other role players) in preserving the endangered Swartkops River Estuary. The Sumcay Camping Centre Trust has been in existence as a camping and conference centre for over 30 years and has recently clocked up over 500 000 camper nights. The centre serves schools, the community, youth organisations, churches and occasional corporate functions. The situation of Sumcay is in close proximity to all schools in the Metro, who will be the target of the programme offered. All funds generated from this proposal will be used to fund the capital development and equipping of the centre. As is the case with the Sumcay Camping Centre, all funds raised will go towards the building and development of the centre. Since its opening, Sumcay has met all of its own running costs from fees generated from camping.Details of the proposed Centre, costs, location, Sumcay and the Swartkops River are detailed on the website.
